Sample press release

Press releases used to be for one purpose: releasing news from your company to journalists and publications in hopes your story gets told. But with the internet, companies don’t need to wait for journalists to bite. News releases can be shared directly on your website with any audience.

In today’s world there’s room for both. The following example from the non-existent company, Widget-Co., shows how the exact same information can be crafted to suit each type of release:

For Immediate Release

Toronto, ON – February 27th, 2019 – The official launch of Widget-Co’s new W-100 widget is set for March 1st, 2019 in Toronto.  The celebration takes place at their headquarters, One Yonge St., and coincides with Widget-Co’s 100th anniversary. The name W-100 commemorates this momentous occasion.

The new widget, made of a light alloy-steel, is three times faster and lasts twice as long as it’s predecessor, the aluminum-based W-X25.  The W-100 is designed for appliances that currently run on the W-X25.

Samples of the W-100 will be available at the launch for photographers.  Guests are invited to test out the new widget on a few gadgets. The W-100 will be available for purchase through all 300 Widget-Co retail stores, and online.

Anticipated sales of the W-100 are promising.  “We expect to sell 40 million units in 2016-19” says Rachel Goldman, Senior VP of Product Development.  The current best-selling widget, W-X25, sold 35 million units in 2017-18.

The launch of the W-100 comes on the heels of another major Widget-Co announcement.  Canada’s oldest and largest maker of widgets will close its Peel manufacturing site to make way for a brand new plant in Whitby.  The new plant will use robotics which may produce widgets more quickly, safely and cleanly.

“For one hundred years, Widget-Co has developed new products to meet the changing needs of its customers,” Chuck Smith says. “This commitment to innovation has kept us at the top of the industry and I am confident the W-100 will continue that long tradition.”
